Top teams from SA BEST’s competition will be invited to the Texas BEST competition which occurs some time in November or December. The competition has previously been held at Howard Pain University, Texas A&M University, SMU, Texas Tech, University of North Texas (in Denton) and more recently has been hosted by the University of Texas at Dallas with the competition in Frisco, TX. This is a regional playoff where you’ll meet other BEST teams from around Texas, and New Mexico.
The number of SA BEST teams invited to Texas BEST is based on the ratio of schools participating at SA BEST to the total number participating at all the BEST hubs that feed Texas BEST multiplied by the total number of teams invited to Texas BEST. The number of San Antonio teams varies from year to year but is typically approximately 8 teams.
For teams that participated under the UIL designation (which requires a fee be paid to BEST of Texas after registration), there is another path to a state level championship. UIL schools are allocated to the hubs in a manner similar to that for Texas BEST, but the pool is only those teams that participated under the UIL designation. San Antonio will advance a number of large and small schools based on the allocation provided.
