The Texas Education Agency (TEA) has recently launched the "Own Your Own Future" (OYOF) student outreach campaign that is designed to show teens that graduating from high school is the first step toward college and a career. The flagship component of this campaign is this website. OYOF is hosting an interactive event at Ingram Park Mall in San Antonio on Saturday, June 7 from 2 – 4 p.m. There will be computers available for students to explore the Web site as well as staff to guide them through it, free t-shirts, and San Antonio's 98.5 FM The Beat, will be broadcasting live. 4/28/08 - The schedule has been posted. Please take a look. There are just a few days left for teams from last year to take advantage of your reserved spot. Please take a moment to sign up, if you haven't already, or let us know if you don't plan to participate (that way we won't hound you!) 3/9/08 - Team sign up for 2008 is now open! Login to your SA BEST account and then sign up for this year's game: "Just Plane Crazy." If you're looking for something robotic to do on March 15th, you could come by the San Antonio GEAR competition (using Lego Mindstorm kits) at the UTSA Convocation Center. Matches should start around 10:00 AM and will continue through the middle of the afternoon. We have 48 grade and middle-school teams participating this year. It should be great fun. Below are a couple pictures from last year's competition. If you know anything about BEST, you know that this year's competition will be significantly different from the one last year
| ![]() The SA BEST (Boosting Engineering, Science, and Technology) competition is a contest held annually to inspire and interest students in the fields of science and engineering. With guidance from adult mentors, local teams of students design and build a remote controlled machine to accomplish a specific task. The students are given a box of raw materials from which to build the machine and 6 weeks to design and construct it. The task of the robot is kept secret until Kick-off Day, when all the teams are told what the robot is required to do. On Competition Day, all schools will compete head-on with each other in a thrilling science-fair-turned-sports-event. Several teams advance to the regional Texas Best competition and compete with the BEST robots from other areas. More information on the BEST concept is available. SponsorsSA BEST appreciates the contributions of all sponsors, but would particularly like to recognize for their contributions to all BEST hubs through their Yes Program |
